YIKES!
This isn't my picture, but I did take a picture (however, the computer we use to upload pictures is having issues and our in-resident IT guy ain't here to fix it yet). One of these suckers was in my kitchen this evening. The boys spotted it and it tucked tail and hid in the crevasse of the kitchen cabinets. They told me about it and I really was nonchalant about it. No big whoop.
I sort of forgot about it and when I tried to let the dog out for her final pit stop it was curled up by the door. When I started to jerk the door open, the thing came to life and wiggled all over the hell . . . which in turn animated me quite a lot! I screamed like someone was chasing me with a machete! The kids thought it was funny (I'm so glad I can be their comic relief). Connor saved the day and smashed that bugger to death. As he slipped paper under it so he could chuck the carcass outside, it was still twitching. I wiped up the guts with Lysol wipes as Connor gave it some finishing touches outside. I'm so glad we have linoleum floors.
It really was quite disgusting.
My childish screaming, that is.

Eeewwww! We get woodland centipedes (you'll have to google that one) and their legs are very hair-like and they get very large too. I've even seen the boys scream over them! I really have hard time figuring out why God made creepy things. ;-)
Eeeeeeeeeek!!!! *running away like the coward that I am*
Yuck! This looks so like a 6-inch centipede visitor we had during our tour in Hawaii. I just found you blog this morning. Like you, I'm also a Catholic homeschooling military spouse. We did a short tour in HI several years ago, and your pictures made me a little nostalgic. Nice to meet you!
It's the way them move (wiggle snake-like) and their size that I find the most unnerving.
Welcome, uncommonhousewife!!!
Eeew! I remember a few years back..we lived in the house across the street and I have no idea how, but for some reason these little (big here) creeps would get in our bathrooms. You know the little hole that is in your sink ..not the drain hole, but the one near the rim that you cannot see? Anyway, the little critters would come through there. One time I was bending down to rinse my face and I saw that thing! AHHHHH! I about peed..yes, I said that, my pants! It was almost in my face...yuck..anyway, you crack me up. Read this post to my daughter..she got a kick out of it too. Gross things that happen...have a purpose..they make us laugh sometimes! THanks, I needed that! Sorry it had to freak you out though!
Love the last sentence!!!!!
so that was the strange noise I heard...from the islands all the way to MN!
That critter is huge!
Where is that puppy of yours to eat that thing.
I hate bugs.
@Kissteen - no way would I let Hols eat it . . . those things give a painful sting, believe it or not.
Gross! Ew, Ew, Ew! That's all I have to say about that!
