A Slave To Comments (or not?)

Yes, yes, yes.  I am beholden to the comments.  But, but, but!!!!  There's more to this mish-mash going on inside my noggin than craving attention (whether I get any or not).  Really.  Honestly.

I write for me (mostly).  That's about as honest as an admission you'll get.  *smile*

The thing is . . . the thing is:  I have to ask myself how much do I keep it real here?  My honest admissions might hurt my kids or my spouse or my extended family or friends - and, that would never be my intention.  I will only really ever tell my story, but my story mingles with other people's stories . . . so I'm sharing a bit of them, too.  Maybe they are more private than I am.  I don't know.  SO, I try to be careful.

And, there are other privacy concerns:  our safety.  I can only be "so" vigilant, then it all hinges on trust.

Lately, I have been having a hard time accepting that I am getting older.  I am grateful to be getting older 'cos it means I'm not dead.  However, it's just that I'm more keenly aware of time ticking . . . and all the things I haven't yet done - but I don't let it make me sad in any way.  I just get a wee bit anxious now and again.  I don't like my gray hairs . . . they are really pissing me off.  Which is why I put off cutting my hair for so long 'cos they show.  My hair is too short to cover with dye every five weeks - it's not worth the effort.  Therefore, I'm trying to embrace the change.  And, holy hell, it.is.hard!

I'm worried about my daughter's neck.  We pretty much understand that it's stress-related/induced.  However.  She knows what she needs to do, but isn't.  That, my friends, is the cut mustard right there.  It is so unbelievably frustrating. I wish my stress was in my neck, 'cos my ass is on fire from all the trips to the loo over the worrying.  (How's that for real?)  I'm not kidding.  Cottonelle really needs to re-think what they call soft!

Of course, then, there is Connor.  Well, I always intuitively thought he has some kind of learning issues.  I sought help for him - testing, anything! - to help him with making some success with school.  He has always hated school - and, it's because it does not come easy to him (even though he is particularly bright).  I think we may be finally - finally! - getting some answers soon.  We have a consult to get him tested for ADD.  It's either that or he has anxiety and mild depression and anger because of something else.  I think he has ADD - the silent kind that eats away at a persons self-confidence and self-esteem.  God knows, we have loved him from the beginning and have supported him etc. etc., so something else is going on.  And, my friends, it has been stressful.

Home schooling Christian is going well.  We have ground rules that are working for us.  It's not always peachy 'cos after all it is still school . . . structured learning.  But, he wants to be here - that's all the difference!

I am going to try and use the time Dan is away on a trip for work to get my home better organized.  So far I have made some significant difference in my bedroom (the most stress-inducing room in this house, actually).  Our bedroom cannot be a dumping ground any more.  We make a decision to keep (if that is the case, where?  not in here) or throw away/donate/sell (to the garage for out-sourcing).  I want to become a bit more minimalist.  Well, simplify things a bit more.  Less to "worry" about or, as in our case, pack up and move again later.

There is no definitive word yet, but it looks more and more like we're staying in HI another three years.  I'm indifferent, really. It's nice here so we'll just soak up more of it and get good and properly sick of it.  Me?  I'm really ready to retire and settle down somewhere in our own home.  Hell, bury me in the yard kind of thing.  Move in and stay put.

But, in my world:  just not yet.

I love your honesty. It was one of the things that drew me to your blog oh so long ago. That, and your faithfulness. You are a great mom, wife, and friend. Take a deep breath.

It sounds like a combination of all these things stressin' you out!!

Love the purple screaming lady background!!

I'm sorry you are going through all these things.

I know you are close in age to me, if not the same age?...anyway, I'm loving being over 40-it's the first time I know what I want and don't really care what others think. I know what works for me and what doesn't and the heck with the rest!!

Embrace it, as hard as it is--you can do it!

I think that the almost news of having to stay another 3 years in HI is hard for you, I know you don't really like the warm/hot climate. Do you know Jenny at "Lest I forget"? She is having to move to Alaska next year and is a southern girl. Extremes you two are that's for sure.

Prayers for you sweet Sarah, Thanks for all your prayers, you are the best.

Love the look really! Read my post tomorrow entitled *Embracing the gray*...so providential you put that in your post.

Welcome to the imperfect world. I am glad I have others for encouragement...and to share the misery LOL!~Theresa

I don't have time to comment here often, butI do love your honesty.

I, too, often write about deeply personal matters, including family, and try to carefully balance honesty with sensitivity to maintaining others' privacy. My little guy is fair game, as his posts are usually funny and make my readers smile, but when I write about other family members I try to ask if what I've written or photographed is ok with them to post.

Keep writtin' girl. If nothing else, it's cheap therapy :}

Thanks for your honesty and I will pass on some of mine here..Shane DOES have ADD with some of the hyperactivity. We are actively getting treatment and his focus has been entirely different..making all A's and high B's, planning for college, driving, working in youth groups, going to counseling and a 12-step meeting now. It is almost overwhelming the change and it is STILL One Day At A Time for me, but girlfriend, I have always felt I had something like this..I have always had trouble retaining what I read..comprehension, interrupting at times..you know..writing too much..like here..jumping from this to that project, etc. I wish I had known of my "condition" a long time ago, but thankful Shane has. I firmly believe that my firstborn, Maria has it and my third daughter, Crista, has it. I didn't know it can be inherited. So, there you have it..I'm being as raw and honest as I can be. I don't know what causes it, but I have my suspicions..that it is more and more increasingly environmental and is not nearly what I thought before..I know now Shane has been suffering more than I realized. God please continue to help him..he will always need it..we all do..God bless you, Sarah..you are a swell gal, hon! :)

I'm not usually a commenter. I'll just pick up the phone and call you. But I understand the need for the com box. I am glad that you blog. Don't quit. Period. End of Story. Hey..maybe that's what you should do..write a story..without periods. The grammatical kind. That would be a poem. I bet you'd be good at poetry. You should try it. Yeah. Yep. That's it. Love ya!

If I didn't have Jamie I wouldn't get any comments...just saying!!

I have a son who has ADD. Needs his meds and he is fine. I think I have it also. I am a total scatterbrain.

Wish you were moving to MN...but I think Hawaii would also be a sweet place to live.

Hang in there and as always thanks for praying for me. Prayers said for you!

Ya know, part of the reason I haven't written/blogged much lately is due to the saying "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything"!!! Lord help me...and you! Anyway, I completely get the privacy of others thing and trying to keep it real. My blog is there soley for me to keep a record of our family. Odd as it is, I do not care a whit about comments. I'm not sure why I do not have a care about them, but am thankful for having been given this attitude.

At least I know - after reading about your stress - that I will keep my own!! Prayers to you, Sarah.
